Animal extracts are substances derived from the tissues, organs or other parts of animals. These extracts are rich in specific bioactive compounds that can be used for a wide range of applications in medicine, cosmetics, food and research. The use of animal extracts is a practice that dates to ancient times and continues to play an important role in various industries today.
Benefits of Animal Extract

01
Reduces risk of heart disease
Animal extract can influence some of these factors and reduce the risk of heart disease. Studies of rats and mice have found that animal extract improves fat metabolism and lowers triglyceride levels.

02
Helps manage diabetes symptoms
Animal extract may be beneficial for diabetes management by improving blood sugar management and reducing some of these side effects. One way that animal extract lowers blood sugars is by blocking the activity of the enzyme alpha-glucosidase, which breaks down carbs in the small intestine.

03
May help fight cancer
Animal extract has cancer-fighting abilities thanks to several of its unique compounds. Animal extract is mixed with human cancer cells in a test tube, they cause the cancer cells to die faster.

04
Reduces inflammation and oxidative stress
Animal extract contain powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds that may help reduce the impact of these illnesses.
Application of Animal Extract
Medicine and Pharmaceuticals
Animal extracts have long been used in medicine for their therapeutic properties. Some notable applications include:Heparin: This anticoagulant is commonly derived from the intestinal lining of pigs and the lungs of cattle. It is essential for preventing blood clots during surgery and other medical procedures.Collagen and Gelatin: Derived from bovine and porcine tissues, collagen and gelatin are used in wound dressings, drug delivery systems and as scaffolds in tissue engineering.
Cosmetics and Personal Care
Animal extracts are valuable ingredients in the cosmetics and personal care industries. They are valued for their beneficial effects on skin and hair health. Some examples include:Collagen: Widely used in anti-aging creams, serums, and masks, collagen helps improve skin elasticity and reduce wrinkles.Elastin: Another protein found in connective tissue, elastin is used in skin care products to improve skin flexibility and firmness.
Food and Nutrition
Animal extracts are used in the food industry for their nutritional and functional properties:Gelatin: Derived from the collagen in animal bones and skin, gelatin is used as a gelling agent in desserts, confections, and various processed foods.Fish Oil: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil is a common dietary supplement that supports heart health and reduces inflammation.
Research and Biotechnology
Animal extracts are essential in scientific research and biotechnology due to their unique properties and bioactive components:Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA): Used as a stabilizer in enzyme reactions, as a blocking agent in assays, and in cell culture media.Trypsin: An enzyme extracted from the pancreas of pigs, trypsin is used to digest proteins in various laboratory procedures, including cell culture and protein purification. Bovine trypsinogen is a proenzyme (zymogen) that is activated to form trypsin.
Process of Animal Extract
Place 20 mg of tissue into a microcentrifuge tube.
Digest Tissue: Resuspend the tissue pellet in 180 μL of Lysis Solution T.
Add 20 μL of proteinase K, mix by vortexing.
Incubate at 55 °C for 2–4 hours or overnight until the tissue is completely lysed. Vortex occasionally during incubation.
Optional RNase Treatment: If residual RNA is a concern, add 20 μL of
RNase A solution and incubate at room temperature for 2 minutes
Lyse cells: Vortex for 15 seconds. Add 200 μL of Lysis Solution C to the sample. Vortex thoroughly as a homogenous mixture is essential for efficient lysis. Incubate at 70 °C for 10 minutes.
Prepare column: Add 500 μL of the Column Preparation Solution to each pre-assembled Binding Column and centrifuge at 12,000 × g for 1 minute.
Prepare for binding: Add 200 μL of ethanol to the lysed sample and mix by vortexing.
Load lysate: Transfer the entire contents of the sample tube into the treated binding column from step 5. Centrifuge at ≥6500 × g for 1 minute.
Quality Matters: Choose high-quality extracts from reputable sources to ensure safety and efficacy.
Dosage: Follow recommended dosages to avoid adverse effects. More isn't always better when it comes to Animal Extract.
Allergies and Interactions: Be aware of potential allergies or interactions with other medications your pet may be taking.
